Time for an executive Web posting policy?
Whole Foods Market CEO John Mackey drew a lot of criticism for his penchant for posting about his company on Yahoo Finance. According to the Wall Street Journal, from 1999 through 2006, Mackey posted more than 1,000 messages, touting Whole Foods and criticizing rivals. The company just enacted a new policy prohibiting such posts in order to avoid the appearance of impropriety. This strikes me as a smart move. An executive could easily slip and run afoul of Reg FD for one thing. Perhaps it is time for something more formal. Article
